ABOUT THE AUTHORS

Elaine Manley
Founder & Wealth Manager · CFP® Professional
A Wealth Manager with deep expertise in financial planning, Elaine founded Financial Journey Partners in 2018. She was named a 2022 Silicon Valley Business Journal Woman of Influence.
Scott Manley
Chief Investment Officer & Wealth Manager · CMFC®, MBA
In the financial industry since 2000, Scott leads the FJP investment team and helps clients plan for long-term care. He holds an MBA from the University of Wisconsin, Madison.

Ellen was thoughtful about money her whole life. A respected leader in her school district, she saved steadily for decades and retired comfortably. She followed he father's advice,"never put all your eggs in one basket," and split her investments between Financial Journey Partners and another large, well-known national firm. Two firms felt safer than one.
Then came 2022. The Federal Reserve raised interest rates from near zero to five percent in a matter of months, one of the fastest increases in a hundred years. It was a historically brutal year for both stocks and bonds, and Ellen's portfolios were put to the test.
They did not weather it the same way. Her FJP portfolio, managed to her risk tolerance, lost a relatively small and manageable amount. Her portfolio at the other firm lost considerably more, nearly twice as much. The experience changed how Ellen thought about diversification. She realized it wasn't about spreading money across firms. It was about how that money is coordinated and managed. She consolidated everything at FJP. "Ypu make my financial life easier," she told her Wealth Manager, "and you're lovely to work with."
Past performance is not an indication of future performance. Read Ellen's full story, and others, in the book.
